A newborn session in February

Newborn sessions are among my favorite types of sessions. The challenge is what sucks me right in. Babies at this age are very sleepy and are hungry very often as all parents know. I arrive at a newborn session, taking a few trips from my car to their house, with all sorts of things to work with. There are full sized blankets, bean bags and a heating pad to name a few. I spend hours at families' houses for this type of session. I spend a lot of time comforting the child in between shots. When baby gets hungry I sit and wait, sometimes get the "set" ready for the next photograph. What happens very often is that mom finishes nursing baby, he or she will be all ready to be photographed, nice and sleepy from nursing, and then "ppfffftt" a full diaper. Or the baby is all wrapped up and warm and so ready for the photo shoot and I unwrap baby very very slowly, taking all the time I need to make sure baby is not disturb. After the 5 minutes of patience I realize baby has pooed all up his back.  And we all know changing time wakes baby right up. Wonderful. Another change and a not so happy baby.

But in between all the chaos, I am able to capture beautiful images of the child. The reason I am a children's photographer.
