Newborn sessions are among my favorite types of sessions. The challenge is what sucks me right in. Babies at this age are very sleepy and are hungry very often as all parents know. I arrive at a newborn session, taking a few trips from my car to their house, with all sorts of things to work with. There are full sized blankets, bean bags and a heating pad to name a few. I spend hours at families' houses for this type of session. I spend a lot of time comforting the child in between shots. When baby gets hungry I sit and wait, sometimes get the "set" ready for the next photograph. What happens very often is that mom finishes nursing baby, he or she will be all ready to be photographed, nice and sleepy from nursing, and then "ppfffftt" a full diaper. Or the baby is all wrapped up and warm and so ready for the photo shoot and I unwrap baby very very slowly, taking all the time I need to make sure baby is not disturb. After the 5 minutes of patience I realize baby has pooed all up his back. And we all know changing time wakes baby right up. Wonderful. Another change and a not so happy baby.
But in between all the chaos, I am able to capture beautiful images of the child. The reason I am a children's photographer.

A beautiful family on a cold winter day
New England winters seem to last FOREVER. As most of you may know I work mostly outdoors and living in New Hampshire limits the days of running around on green lawns. I am trying to be more accommodating to what the weather gives me and it seems to be working well for me. The challenge is finding space in a home where a family can act like a family while I have room to photograph them. Photographing a baby indoors is not as much of a challenge since no matter what, baby is beautiful and baby is comfortable in his or her home. With this family, we spent time in a very spacious living room, which is where I created the first five images below. We went out to the closed in porch warmed by a wood stove, using an ottoman and the wall of the porch to create the sixth and seventh photographs down. We went to the master bed, which had a beautiful headboard. This was a perfect setting for a family portrait. And of course we spent time in the little girl's room, where she read with mommy and daddy (with dog listening in of course!) I used this time to go in close to big sister's face and used her beautiful window seat to photograph the little model :). These of course are just a small selection of the images created from their session.
Winters here may be long but I can manage! :)
Christmas baby!
This sweet newborn was born on Christmas Day :). As all newborn sessions are a challenge, this baby was very sleepy for most of her portrait session. I was able to use her bedroom for most of the shots, and I moved to the parents' bedroom to get some cradle photographs done. Such a sweet baby and I am looking forward to seeing her for many more portrait sessions in the future! Next will be her three month session!

A little behind on posting!!
Ok so I have not been posting any images lately! So here it goes!!
Here is a little guy who I have been photographing since he was a newborn :). His brother too!
Working on my newborn portraits.... :)
I babysat this sweet little girl for a short period of time when she was a baby. She is such a doll!!
Another newborn! I had a lot of newborns this year :). With this little one (like most newborns) I spend hours with the family, taking lots of breaks to eat and change... we finally got her to calm down and got some beautiful images of her sleeping!
I have known the mother of this family since we were kids! It was so amazing to see her as a mom, she is such a beautiful mother! <3
This sweet, wonderful family includes their sweet Great Danes in their family portrait days! :) Such sweet dogs! This was the second session that I had with them this year :)
I had such a fun time with this family running around their beautiful yard! Adorable, fun kids! We took a snack break and a few wardrobe changes! :)
This little girl was soooo funny! So happy and giggly!! She kept asking me to play with her and I felt bad because I had to stay behind the camera! I played as much as I could!!
I hope to keep up with my posts now.... it is so hard keeping up with my website, my Facebook business page and this blog!!
